How a Cashless Garage Repair Works

After an accident, knowing the steps saves time. Here is how a motor claim usually works, and where your Advisor helps. The insurer makes the claim decision.

Step 01

Inform the Insurer

Make sure everyone is safe, take photographs of the damage and inform the insurer. Let your Advisor know so that we can guide you.

Step 02

Move the Vehicle to a Garage

If your policy includes roadside assistance, use it. Otherwise arrange safe towing to a network garage for a cashless repair.

Step 03

Surveyor Assessment

The insurer appoints a surveyor, who assesses the damage in person or through photos and videos and approves the repair estimate.

Step 04

Estimate Review

Your Advisor can help you understand what the estimate includes, such as depreciation and deductibles, so you know what to expect.

Step 05

Repair & Delivery

At a network garage, the insurer pays eligible repair costs directly. You pay the compulsory deductible, depreciation where applicable and any non-covered items.

Policy Add-Ons

Motor Add-Ons to Consider

A standard comprehensive policy still leaves some costs with you after a claim. Add-ons can reduce them. Each has its own terms, limits and eligibility.

Zero Depreciation

Zero Depreciation (Bumper-to-Bumper)

Removes the depreciation deduction on most replaced parts in a claim, subject to the number of claims allowed and the vehicle's age.

Monsoon Cover

Engine & Gearbox Protector

Covers damage from water ingress or hydrostatic lock after waterlogging, and oil leakage, as defined in the add-on.

Total Value

Return to Invoice (RTI)

In a total loss or theft, pays the invoice value of the vehicle, which may include registration charges and road tax, as per the add-on terms.

Roadside Help

Roadside Assistance (RSA)

Help with towing, battery jump-start, flat tyre, key replacement and similar breakdown issues, within the limits of the add-on.

Frequently Asked Questions on Motor Insurance

Answers about zero depreciation, IDV and No Claim Bonus.

Third-party insurance is mandatory under the Motor Vehicles Act. It covers your legal liability for injury, death or property damage caused to others, but not damage to your own vehicle. Comprehensive insurance covers third-party liability and also damage to your own vehicle from accidents, fire, theft and natural calamities, subject to the policy terms.
In a standard claim, depreciation is deducted from the cost of replaced parts, commonly 50% for rubber, plastic and batteries, 30% for fibre glass, and a rising percentage for metal parts as the vehicle ages. A zero depreciation add-on removes most of this deduction, subject to the add-on's terms and limits on the number of claims.
The No Claim Bonus belongs to the owner, not the vehicle. If you sell a vehicle and buy another, you can usually carry the discount to the new policy, subject to the insurer's rules and time limits. Your Advisor helps you get the NCB certificate and apply it.
IDV, or Insured Declared Value, is the current market value of your vehicle used by the insurer, and it is the most you can receive in a theft or total loss claim. Setting it too low to reduce the premium can leave you under-compensated, so discuss it with your Advisor.
Make sure everyone is safe, photograph the damage from several angles, and do not start the engine if oil or coolant has leaked. Inform your insurer using the number on your policy document, and call your Advisor on +91 98346 16517 for guidance on the next steps.
